Die Hard: Now I have a machine gun – ho-ho-ho!
Die Hard: Great Christmas movie or greatest Christmas movie?
I just watched it again for the umpteenth time. It’s my own holiday tradition. Some of you might watch Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, or It’s A Wonderful Life. Fie on all that, I say. Give me terror in that L.A. tower with vacationing NYPD cop John MacLane running loose and making life hard for the bad guys for a couple of hours.
How much more in the spirit of giving can you get than when John has to scamper barefoot across a floor full of shattered glass, risking life and limb to save the hostages in Nakatomi Plaza? And there’s all that red (blood) and plenty of green (bearer bonds)! He keeps delivering awesome gifts to the villains. First, there’s the dead guy in a chair and a Santa hat. Merry Christmas! Then he drops a terrorist on the hood of Powell’s car! Beats coal in the stocking! Next, there’s a chair full of C4 and detonators. BOOM! Hey, in the end he even gives his wife’s awesome new Rolex to Hans as a parting gift.
Later this week, I’ll be watching my other favorite Christmas movie: Lethal Weapon.
